Your licence remains valid here.
As long as it is valid you may drive on it in Germany. A conversion is only needed once it expires or if you want one voluntarily. No new test is required.
Most people who already earned a licence abroad do not have to start from scratch here. What applies to you depends on the country that issued it.

Countries with an agreement
Special rules exist for a number of states. Depending on the country the test is waived entirely or only the practical one remains. We clarify which rule applies to you together with the licensing authority.
All other countries
You have to sit both tests, but there is no prescribed number of driving lessons. We prepare you specifically for the practical test and support you for as long as it takes until you are ready. That makes a conversion considerably cheaper than training from scratch.
Important: after registering in Germany you may generally drive on your foreign licence for six months. After that you may not. Start early, as processing at the authority takes time.
Which rule applies to your licence depends on the issuing country and the date you registered in Germany. Bring your licence and your registration certificate to the office and we will tell you what to expect and what it will cost.
